I’ve mentioned before that I’m excited to start sharing more content related to #kickinitbock in everyday life, including doing good in the communities around us. And boy, do I have a fabulous opportunity for #givingbock (see what I did there, lol) to share with you all! Thanks to Topaz Thimble, I’ve come to learn about “Bless A Dress” – a free and local pop-up event, featuring donated gowns and accessories, targeted toward 2022 prom goers who may not otherwise be able to afford the occasion. The event is truly a one stop shop with a jewelry and shoe selection, as well as volunteer seamstresses on site for any necessary alterations… and did I mention, everything is free?!
This year, it is being hosted at Pittsburgh Indoor Sports Arena in Cheswick on:
Thursday, April 7th: 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Friday, April 8th: 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Saturday, April 9th: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
With that said, “Bless A Dress” is currently accepting dress & accessory donations now through March 5th, at numerous locations highlighted below:
The Hair Doctors: 5475 William Flynn Hwy - Gibsonia
Sola Salons: 181 Wexford Bayne Rd - Wexford
Allure Hair Designs & Mini Spa: 705 Warrendale Village Dr - Warrendale
The Print Shop: 133 Grand Ave - Mars
Jerry's Car Wash: 20320 US 19 - Cranberry Twp
Topaz Thimble: 2882 Glenmore Ave - Dormont
All of those formal dresses from past proms, wedding parties, and pageants…the ones just hanging in the back of your closet taking up space… let’s face it, you’re never actually going to wear them again. They’re not getting any use where they are, but they could make all the difference to someone that is hopeful to head to prom this season. So why not let those dresses dance another day and make a local student’s dream come true by giving them to this amazing cause?!
I know that I personally have 4 beautiful dresses overflowing in a closet at my parent’s house, and I’m sure they would be ecstatic to not only finally have that extra storage space back, but to also have someone else get some use out of a dress that I wore once! I’ve had the privilege of loaning my dresses to a couple of hometown friends over the years, but the thought of rehoming each of them permanently to someone who picks it out of a crowd of options and beams with confidence in the mirror, just brings me so much joy. Along with many others, I’m thrilled at the opportunity to volunteer as a “personal shopper” to help deliver a top-notch experience for each guest, ensuring they get the pampering and individualized attention that they deserve! Dress shopping with my mom during my school age years are some of my fondest memories together from that time…so to be able to help create that experience for others, especially those who may not be able to swing it otherwise, is so very special to me. Scroll for more details about the event, as well as a sneak peek of baby Leslie & the gowns that I dropped off this week!
